Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Citation Master, operated by Jonathan Meislish, a sole proprietor registered in Israel (“we,” “us,” or “Citation Master”). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The Service
Citation Master is an academic citation verification and formatting tool. You upload a document containing footnotes or endnotes; the Service extracts your citations, searches academic databases and the web to verify each source, and returns verified citations formatted in your chosen citation style. The Service verifies that sources exist as described — it does not evaluate the accuracy of your arguments or the quality of your research.
2. Account Registration
You must create an account to use the Service. You agree to provide accurate information and to keep your login credentials confidential. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
3. Verifications
The Service uses a verification-based billing model. Verifications are purchased in advance and deducted only when citations are successfully confirmed. Citations that fail verification cost nothing — you are only charged for citations the Service successfully confirms.
At signup, your account receives a one-time welcome balance of 50 free verifications (one per individual/account identity). These credits are account-wide and may be used across one or multiple documents. Verifications do not expire. Verifications are non-transferable between accounts.
Attempting to reset free credits by deleting and recreating accounts is a violation of these Terms and may result in account suspension and/or a permanent IP ban.
Verification packs are purchased through our payment processor, LemonSqueezy. LemonSqueezy acts as Merchant of Record and handles all payment processing, tax collection, and receipts. By purchasing verifications, you also agree to LemonSqueezy’s terms of service.
4. Refund Policy & Digital Consumables
Nothing in this Section 4 limits any non-waivable consumer rights you may have under applicable law.
1. Verification Balances
Purchases of Citation Verification packs are applied to your account balance immediately. Because our Service provides immediate digital processing upon your request, all purchases are considered final and non-refundable once the balance from that purchase has been partially or fully consumed.
2. The “Pay for Success” Guarantee
Our system operates on a strict pay-for-success model. A verification is deducted from your balance only if our system successfully verifies and formats the citation. If a citation cannot be verified, it is flagged for your manual review, and no verification is deducted from your balance.
3. Unused Balances & Account Deletion
If you have made a purchase but have not consumed any verifications from that specific purchase, you may request a full refund within 14 days of the transaction by contacting support@citation-master.ai. Terminating the Service or voluntarily deleting your account does not, by itself, create refund rights beyond those in this Section 4.
4. Exceptions
We reserve the right to grant refunds or credits at our sole discretion in cases of documented technical errors or system outages caused by our platform.
5. Accuracy, User Responsibility, and Beta Status
Citation Master is currently in a Beta development phase and utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to format and verify citations. While we strive for accuracy, the AI may occasionally generate incorrect formatting, hallucinate data, or fail to accurately interpret complex or obscure source materials.
Our platform is designed to be an editorial assistant, not a replacement for human review. You are solely responsible for reviewing and verifying the accuracy of all citations generated by our Service before submitting or publishing your document. Except as expressly stated in this Section 4 or required by applicable law, we do not offer monetary refunds or account credits for verifications that contain formatting or factual errors. We encourage users to use our feedback tools to report these edge cases so we can continuously improve the system for our commercial launch.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Upload documents you do not have the right to process
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or automate access to the Service beyond normal use
- Use the Service to process documents containing confidential information belonging to third parties without their consent
- Attempt to circumvent verification deduction, usage limits, or access controls
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
6. Your Content
You retain all ownership of the documents you upload and the citations contained within them. By uploading a document, you grant us a limited, temporary license to process its contents solely for the purpose of providing the Service to you. We do not claim any ownership over your documents, citations, or research.
Your original document file is deleted from our servers after processing is complete. We retain only the structured citation metadata and verification results to display your output in your account dashboard.
7. Third-Party Services
The Service relies on third-party APIs and infrastructure to function, including Google Firebase, Anthropic, OpenAI, Crossref, OpenAlex, Google Books, and Serper. We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or content of data returned by these services. Downtime or data errors in third-party services may affect verification results.
8. Intellectual Property
The Citation Master software, interface, branding, and verification methodology are our intellectual property. Nothing in these Terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute any part of the Service without our written permission.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no warranty that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that verification results will be accurate in every case. No AI-based system achieves perfect accuracy. We encourage you to review your results, particularly for high-stakes submissions.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Citation Master shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to errors in citation verification, academic consequences, or loss of data. Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Service in the 30 days preceding the claim.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by a notice within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
12. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel. Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Israel.
